Gray Encourages "No" Vote on Treasurer Ballot Issue

Press Release

Date: Oct. 21, 2010

Andrew Gray, Libertarian Candidate for Kansas Governor, encourages all fellow Shawnee County Residents to vote "No" on the Shawnee County Treasurer Position Question that will appear on the November 2nd General Election ballot.

Gray says, "Voting for our representatives is the single most important Liberty that defines us as Americans. We simply cannot give up that Liberty." Gray continues by pointing out that our current County Treasurer was originally appointed, though by one of the establishment parties and not by the County Commissioners.

Gray says there are two reasons Shawnee County voters should not give up their Liberty to elect their County Treasurer. First, one of the primary roles of the Treasurer is to track the spending of the County Commissioners. Gray contends that to have the Treasurer appointed by those whose spending he is tracking is, at best, unwise. Second, he believes that Kansans deserve to be treated like adults capable of choosing what is best for themselves, their families, and their community. Gray believes that the root cause of the challenges facing the County Treasurer's office is not voter incompetence, but the short comings of the long-standing two-party system.
